Our neighbor had a mighty tree
That grew with a lean of 45 degrees.
Every time we had a bad storm
I thought that it might fall
But through blizzards and hurricanes, wind and snow,
that tree stood strong and tall.
The other day to my dismay,
They cut that old tree down
To protect the electric wires, I presume,
as they did so many other trees in town.
I learned a lot from that old tree.
And hated to see it go.
I, too, find it hard to stand up straight
As age and gravity take their toll.
But like that tree I’m determined to stand
No matter what trials life brings.
I will be strong and courageous
Standing firm in the faith
For I know God is with me through everything.
